Club Rules & Etiquette
Teams for the match are picked by the Club Captain, or nominated person and allocated to assigned skips.
Each skip will decide with the team, who is to play in what position. A coin will be tossed to see which team starts the match. Player 1 on the starting side, will place the delivery mat down within the Delivery Mat Lines, from in front of the Fender, not from behind the Fender.
Play will begin when the skip has placed the Jack on the Jack Line. When playing in 4's, each player will play 2 woods (this will change if less players are playing).
Players will play their opposing number in turn i.e. Player 1 will play their wood first and then the opposing Player 1 to play, until each has played both woods, then Players 2's will play and when Players 3 have finished, all players swap ends with the skips, ensuring to walk on the mat to the other end. The skips then play.
When playing your wood, you must have one foot on the Delivery Mat and the other foot must be inside the Delivery Lines. If this does not happen, a foot fault can be called and the wood removed from play. To play the wood, the 'bias' should always be played on the side to be nearest the pin, or block.
When playing the wood, if it touches the pin or block, it is removed from play. If the wood does not go over the Dead Line into the Live Area, it will be removed and if it goes through to the Ditch at the other end, it will also be removed. If the wood touches the Jack it is marked with chalk, as if then, or at any other time in the match it goes into the Ditch, it will still count.
If during play the Jack is knocked into the Ditch, a chalk line should be made around it, so it is not moved, as it is now 'dead'. If the Jack is touching the Ditch Line it is still in play. If during play the Jack is hit off the mat, the Jack is dead and the end replayed.
When all woods have been played, Player 3 from each team will go onto the mat to agree the score.
Only both Player 3 are allowed on the mat to decide the score.
No other player is allowed on the mat at this time.
The Player 3 with a team bowl nearest the Jack, will ask for how many they want and if the opposing Player 3 agrees, that is the score for that end.
Always ask for more if you are nor sure, as the number requested can't be increased. If the opposing Player 3 does not agree, measurement will be taken by them to determine the score.
All measuring is to be done with spring calipers, or a flexible measuring tape only. Once the score is agreed, it can be put on the board.
When changing ends, walk down the mat to the other end, not on the wooden floor, as to limit any distraction to the team playing on the adjacent mat.
Who Does What ?
Player 1 - Responsible for placing the Delivery Mat down.
Player 2 - Keeps score on the board and or score card.
Player 3 - With opposing Player 3, will decide the score at the conclusion of each end played. No other player to be on the mat at this time.
Skips - Chose who will play in what position at the beginning of each match. Tosses a coin to see which team will go first and places the Jack for the first end.
After each end, the winning Player 1 will place the Delivery Mat down and the winning skip will place the Jack.
The club have team colours, which are worn for every match and our club finals day, where we play the final of both the Doubles and Singles Tournaments.
We all wear a white tee shirt with club badge and name, with grey trousers and white socks. If a sweater is required, it’s maroon in colour. The adjoining picture illustrating the combination, except for the white socks.
